Author Information for Tom Clancy

While I may not agree with Mr. Clancy's ideology, these are keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat, what's-going-to-happen-next "techno-thrillers". Not the kind to give you nightmares, they may, however cause you to lose sleep. Usually 3-or-more books in one, Clancy always manages to tie them in together by the last pages. I don't know WHERE Clancy gets his information, but he seems to always be 6 months ahead of the headlines. The books were not all written chronologically, so I have tried to indicate the difference between chronology and publication. If it isn't clear, let me know by e-mail, and I'll try to give you a better explanation!

The Usenet site for Tom Clancy hosts LOTS of opinions, even some from Mr. Clancy himself.

There is another series out now, called "Net Force". I enjoyed the first Net Force book, and thought it was a stand-alone. These books are co-written with Steve Pieczenik. The first was reasonably well written, and contained Clancy's trademark several-stories-in-one. They seem to have now become 'short and quick' and the time and thought that usually goes into a Clancy book [witness the frequency with with they arrive on the shelves] is certainly missing. Of course, someone just told me that these are classed as 'young-adult', so perhaps that explains everything! If so, early teens should love them. The imagery in the 'virtual net' is amazing, and the crime fighting never stops. --vj
