Dr. Quincy, move over - there's another medical examiner in town, and this time, he is a she! Thank goodness.

Patricia Cornwell is one of those authors who can write expert crime novels with all the forensic detail you could want and still keep them full of high-tension suspense. Sometimes harrowing, her books have hooked me from the first.

Unfortunately, her last several books have not held up as well as the first five. I much preferred Dr. Scarpetta as a Virginia Medical Examiner. Her involvement with the FBI and her high-tech-expert niece have streched the bounds a bit too far for me. The whining has gotten too strident, and Cornwell for some reason has lost the touch for what started out as a great series.
