"Andrew Taylor is a man who has been meticulously planning his
own fake suicide. He leaves his wife and children in their affluent
Bristol home and just disappears off the face of the earth, along with
£47,000 of not quite his own money. His disappearance is investigated
by policeman William Holloway - a man with his own problems and secrets,
and a history of depression, psychological illness and betrayal. This
is a heck of a book. It's bizarre, involved, unsettling and
intriguing. It's very bleak and uncompromising but there are some
tremendous black comedy moments that seem even funnier because the rest
of the book is tense and chilling. The characters are flawed and
Holloway Falls wasn't always pleasant or easy to read but it was a
powerful and original book that stayed in my mind for a long while." - Donna M - RAM |
