This is her character, Alexandra Cooper, emeshed in a tangled murder with roots in nineteenth century New York, when people with dangerous and incurable diseases, such as smallpox, were sent to isolated sanatoria to die. The results of some research in a local university send the police after a scandal-besieged killer. Fascinating stuff that shows Fairstein's meticulous research. Here's a good example of a tightly structured novel in which just enough historical research blends with the story. Good pace and characterizations." - Carl Brookins - RAM | |
