Author Information for Dick FrancisDick Francis (former English jockey) brings an authenticity to his stories that few others can hope to match. My mother loves these books, too, and our collection is almost complete. Most of them are "stand-alones" but they all feature horseracing backgrounds and almost all in an English setting. Complex plots abound, but mostly without the sex and graphic violence prevalent in so many offerings these days. These are ALL great books.
In an interview in the British fanzine CADS (June 2002), in answer to the question "What next for Dick Francis" Francis replied: "I have stopped serious writing, although I have done a few articles and some short pieces for charity publications. I have had four different adult careers: wartime RAF pilot, professional steeplechase jockey, newspaperman and author. I have retired four times now and I think that will be it. My darling wife, Mary, died in September 2000 after 53 years of wedded bliss. I don't suppose I shall be long in following her. Do they take on astronauts at 81?" I, for one, will miss looking forward to his next book.

James , Simon Brett , Liza Cody , Dick Francis Comment: We've listed some of the contributors to this book as co-authors with Peter Lovesey who edited the collection. Book Description / Blurb The Detection Club has always counted the crème de la crème of crime fiction within its ranks; previous presidents have included Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers, GK Chesterton and, of course, the venerable HRF Keating. Now, in honour of his eightieth birthday, Keating's fellow Detection Club members and the leading lights of contemporary crime fiction serve up a selection of tantalising conundrums. Take the phone off the hook, draw the curtains closed and snuggle up on the sofa, ready to enjoy the wickedly wonderful short-story birthday presents on offer from some of Britain's best loved crime writers. The contributing authors include Len Deighton, Reginald Hill, Colin Dexter, PD James, Simon Brett and Liza Cody, and with Dick Francis penning the foreword and Peter Lovesey putting the collection together, there is sure to be something to delight all crime fans. -- Inside Flap of book | |
