I've read every one of Mr. Hillerman's novels, and enjoyed them all. It's hard to pick a favorite between Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, though. Maybe my favorite titles are the ones that feature them both. These books aren't "cozies", and they're not thrillers - they're somewhere in the middle. Reading about the Navaho and other tribe's customs, and how the officers manage to do their jobs and reconcile their own beliefs with the "white-man's" laws they must enforce is fascinating for my mother and me both, and we are often at opposite ends of the mystery "spectrum". Hillerman is a must read! And for those of you who have been waiting, Mr. Hillerman has stated his intention to return to the series!
