"Harvey Blissberg, former major league baseballer and P.I. on hiatus, is just hanging out, waiting for something to engage his interest. A call from a former team manager doesn't quite do it, but he goes. Seems one Moss Cooley is on track to break Joe DiMaggio's record for hitting in 56 games without a miss. The record is pretty old. Now, Cooley, a black man, is getting getting threats. Some of the threats are manifested in very creative ways. So, Blissberg agrees to take on a bodyguarding job. Temporarily. And of course he's drawn into a complicated scheme which he has to untangle to save the lives of several people, including himself. This book is well written, well paced and should keep anyone's attention who is interested in a book about major league baseball, race relations and a man's mid-life problems." - Carl Brookins - RAM |
