Dusty
Rhoades:
I'm a Simple Country Lawyer living in
Carthage, North Carolina. My tastes in books run (in no particular order)
to science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, and historical fiction and non-fiction.
Favorite living authors are: Spider Robinson, George McDonald Fraser, Terry
Pratchett, Robert Crais, Robert Parker and Lawrence Block. Favorite dead
authors are Mark Twain, Raymond Chandler, and Dashiell Hammett. I write a weekly
column of political commentary and satire which is archived right here at
books-n-bytes. I've just completed a humorous mystery novel which I'm trying to
get published, so if you're in the publishing game, ring me up.
As Vicki says, each BnB reviewer has his or
her own rating system. Mine are as follows:
Five Stars: A classic. The kind of book that my friends eventually wish I'd just
shut up about already. The kind of book that I press upon strangers in the
street.
Four Stars: Above average. The kind of book I pick up and read in every free
moment. The kind of book I make sure to put in the car in the morning so I can
have it to read at lunch.
Three Stars: A decent evening's entertainment. Nothing to write home about, but
it kept me reading.
Two Stars: Below average, or marred in some vital way. Goes directly into the
pile of books destined for the used bookstore.
One Star: I probably threw this book across the room at some point as long as
the cat wasn't sleeping over there.
Zero Stars: Screw the cat. I threw the book across the room anyway. And I want
my money back..
