One of my favorite pictures is of me, circa 8 months. I'm staring raptly at
one-half of a book (the other half had mysteriously disappeared) and trying to
digest all that it had offered. I wasn't actually reading then, but that picture
sums me up: always curious, always intense, and ever observant.
I finally learned to read at two and a half and haven't stopped. Mostly, I read
crime fiction--I started working at a mystery bookstore part-time to feed my
book habit. But I'll read whatever I can get my hands on, from scientific
journals to chick lit to dissertations on Sandy Koufax's fastball. I read to
escape, to relax, to learn, to hide from the world or embrace it. But I've been
a book geek all my life and I will never stop.
I was born and raised Canadian, but my home's now in Manhattan, where I try to
balance my myriad interests. I'm a graduate student in forensic science, which
will hopefully lead me to a series of jobs in a field I adore. Teaching pays the
bills, and singing is my therapy. And I even manage to get some sleep.
I have opinions, many of them, and like to express them. I'm glad to have my own
little soapbox to get my ideas out into the ether. Come along for the ride.
