The RAM Cozy Mystery - Chapter 1
Jon Jordan

Aunt Ellen's Gardden Adventure

Aunt Ellen was out in the garden again. She and the cat spent hours every day digging and plucking and weeding. The only problem with her doing this, was that it was my backyard not hers. But my cat, a large orange ball of fur named Mr. Spoochy, seems to enjoy it. Especially when Aunt Ellen stays in one spot for a while and he can lie on her out flowing robe in the sun.

I decided not to fight the inevitable, and I mixed up a pitcher of lemonade for her. (Aunt Ellen insists that I call what I mix in the pitcher for her lemonade).

After it was chilled and put on a tray with glasses and little umbrellas, I carried it out back.

Ellen smiled and waved a hand up to me and said "Just a minute! I'm almost done in this spot!"

I set the tray down and looked over. She was pulling awfully hard on what must have been a root or some such gardeny thing. Suddenly she flew back landing on her back, robe all akimbo.

And a book flew through the air and landed at my feet. It was a very old book, leather bound, and thick. The cloth wrapping it was almost gone. I pulled away the wrapping and saw the title. Tales of Slaughter. Well... this was an interesting find indeed!
