Hodder & Stoughton; 2000; £16.99; pp. 327
Classification: Adult fiction (Legal thriller)
For this novel, Arnold uses her lawyer, Karen Perry-Mondori, again. She is dealing with a homeless man who is charged with murdering another - a relatively simple case. However, the victim's son discovers evidence pointing towards a more sinister motive, she is thrown into a massive conspiracy stretching into the medical world.
With this latest novel, Catherine Arnold goes from strength to strength. Everyone has seen many movies about conspiracy theories stretching throughout the world and they are a major talking point in today's world. Here, she manages to add more to them and has written an incredibly interesting novel.
Not only that, but it is full of surprises. The conspiracy is so complicated that even when you think you have managed to work out what has happened, Arnold throws in some more surprises, just to keep you guessing. Because of this, you will find that the pages simply fly by. It is a very easy read and despite the fact that there is a lot of scientific stuff involved in the novel, it is not the least bit complicated.
The character of Perry-Mondori is a great one and the author manages to keep on developing her. In fact, I am quite sure that we are going to see some more novels starring this Floridian lawyer. I certainly look forward to reading them.
