King Of The Streets     Amazon UK PB
John Baker
Class/Genre:   Mystery
Series: Sam Turner # 3

Don't expect cozy and cutesie from John Baker. In King of the Streets he again writes of flawed good guys trying to do right, and scary bad guys who are not frightening because they are graphically, blood dripping evil but because they are portrayed as real and possible and almost normal.

If child abuse, drug abuse or self abuse bother you, don't read this book. It was my least favorite of the several Baker novels I have read so far. I felt it needed more of the humor, hope and humanity of Sam, Geordie, Celia and friends to leaven this dark gritty story. The people in Baker's novels can warm your heart or give you a chill, can make you laugh or leave you looking over your shoulder, His characters are raw and rough and real. He gets the world right, with all its everyday good and its bad.
