Chicago, 1930's, Al Capone, depression years. Into this drop a young spunky but naive heroin named Elodie Browne, an ad copywriter with an inquisitive nature. Add a corrupt Chicago police force, a few Chinese and some beautiful jade and wešre off!

Elodie works in the tall Gower building and lives with her mother and three sisters. She has just won a contest to create a radio show for an advertising client. One night while helping a friend serve at her employeršs party, a murder occurs. Elodiešs curious nature won't let the mystery alone and soon she and others around her are in grave danger.

The setting and characters come alive in this book, and the action will keep you turning the pages. This well researched book is a first in a series, but not the first book by author Paula Gosling, writing under a new nom de plume. I have seen the word cozy attached to this book. I think there is too much bloodshed and bullets to regard this as a cozy, but very good reading still.
