Series: Devoncroix Dynasty # 2
Avon, Oct 1999, $23.00, 340 pp.
In New York City, an unknown assailant murders the parents of Nicholas Devoncroix. With their untimely deaths, Nicholas becomes the head of the pack of werewolves who have secretly lived alongside humanity for centuries. Nicholas has decided that his race has adopted too many of the worst traits of humanity and it is time to separate. He calls for the pack to meet in Alaska.
Hannah Braeselton North journeys to the remote Alaskan wilderness where she and her beloved Tom spent much time admiring the wolves before he was murdered. Hannah plans to die here because she can not live without her beloved Tom. When she sees a helicopter crash near her camp, Hannah searches for survivors. She finds an unconscious wolf that she begins to nurse. She also discovers a book that tells the story of the werewolf and civilization. As Nicholas recovers from his near death experience, Hannah starts to believe he is one of those beings described in the book. Someone tried to kill Nicholas with a cleverly planted bomb that blew up the helicopter. Patient and nurse remain concerned what could happen if that assailant learns the leader of the pack still lives.
The passionate and exciting story line of THE PROMISE centers on the relationships of werewolves to mankind and to their pack. The lead characters struggle to survive in a world turning mad. The support cast makes werewolves appear as a genuine superior species. Donna Boyd lives up to the promise of her first tale by providing readers with more than a bowl of Cajun rice. She gifts her audience with a five-star full course meal.
