Review: One Shot

Four innocent people are shot down in the street by a sniper hidden in a construction area of a parking garage. Serious Crime’s Squad’s lead detective Emerson directed his men in the investigation. The sniper left a trail that Emerson’s crew immediately uncovered. The trail led them straight to James Barr. James lives alone with only his dog for company. He has very few friends. Rosemary Barr is his sister and the only one to stand beside him after his arrest. She is employed by a law firm and the firm reluctantly sent a lawyer to represent Barr.

James Barr stated to his lawyer. The first was “They got the wrong guy”. The last thing he said was “Get Jack Reacher for me.” Barr went back to his cell and later was viciously attacked and wound up in a coma.

Rosemary hired a new lawyer for her brother. Barr’s new lawyer, Helen Rodin, is just starting up her practice. Helen is the daughter of Alex Rodin, the District Attorney, who will be prosecuting James Barr. Helen thought Reacher might be an old army buddy but soon found out that Barr and Reacher were different ranks and different branches of the service.

Ann Yanni, local newscaster, appeared on TV reporting on what she termed “The Friday Night Massacre”. Reacher just happened to be watching and recognized the name James Barr and was soon on his way to Indiana, the scene of the crime. But Barr was not an old army buddy and his mission was not to save him.

Reacher’s initial investigation left him feeling that all was not right and the evidence was too easily obtained. When Reacher realizes someone is tracking him he feels sure there is a Puppet Master behind the killings and that James Barr has been set up.

He joins Helen Rodin in searching for the truth behind the killings. It is a very complicated, exciting story. I would highly recommend One Shot.
