"Wife of Moon" is one of the novels in a series set on the Wind River Reservation and featuring Father John O'Malley and Native lawyer Vicky Holden as the amateur detectives.
This novel contains two murder stories, one set in 1907 and the other in the present day. It is not clear throughout much of the book whether these stories are in parallel or whether there is a connection between them.
In the present day, a sudden death - perhaps a murder, perhaps a suicide - and a disappearance occur almost simultaneously. Father John and Vicki must find out the truth about the death and find the missing person - dead or alive. There are a number of people and situations to investigate. Two new workers have arrived on the Res - an assistant priest and a museum curator. A very powerful politician is expected on the Res to make an important announcement and possibly attract donations for parish activities. And on the local level, a band counsellor has made enemies with his stand on development issues.
The Native setting and the interesting protagonists make this book well worth reading.
