A stand alone novel from the author of the popular Harry Bosch series.

Henry Pierce has a new apartment, and a new phone number. Before he even has furniture, the phone starts to ring. And ring again. And again. Each call inquires for "Lilly" and from the context of the inquiries, Pierce realizes the callers are looking for some feminine companionship - the type men pay good money for. Attempting to straighten out the confusion in the phone numbers, Pierce is unable to reach Lilly by phone, and his several messages go unanswered.

Impelled by some drive which is at first poorly understood by the reader, Pierce begins to track down the mysterious "Lilly," first through her website, then her mail drop, then her landlord, then a friend and coworker of Lilly's, and finally some very unfriendly types who want him to stop his search for her.

In the meantime, events at the small start up chemical/computer research firm Pierce owns are nearing a crucial date - a presentation to a lucrative source of venture capital.

Can these plot threads, totally at variance with each other, tie together somehow?

You betcha!

A very enjoyable read by one of the best writers around!
