Harry Bosch is back in the Homicide division of the LAPD, and his first call to the scene of a murder finds him in the middle of a turf war between the FBI and the local police department. A doctor who had access to radioactive medical supplies has been found shot in the head, and when cops visit his laboratory, they find no trace of the supply of radioactive cesium which should have been stored there.

In his usual style, Harry begins the task of collecting evidence and tracing important details and is startled and furious when the FBI agents out maneuver him at every turn. The reader will not be surprised to find Harry's instincts providing an important piece of the puzzle.
