Where do I start? With the fact that this book demands to be finished as soon as possible? That the plot builds and builds like a symphony? That the characters are totally absorbing? This is a hard book to review. I want to compare it to other authors’ work, but that would feel unfair to this book. And I really can’t go into great detail because you deserve to be surprised while you read.

Sanctuary is an island off of the coast of Maine. It has been inhabited since the 1600’s. The people living there now have ties to the island that go back generations. But there is something else on the island. And it is calling to some Bad Men.

Connolly has written a brilliant novel, with aspects of different genres overlapping, it can’t be simply called a mystery or a horror book or straight fiction. It has insights into modern living and bits of history intermingled.

So, what can I say about it? Read this book. Maybe with the lights on.…
