John Connolly
Class/Genre:   Mystery   Thriller   Private Investigator
Series: Charlie Parker # 4

As is often the case, other reviews posted here give you a good summary of the plot. Once more, Charlie Parker follows his own strong irresistable pull to investigate injustice, to help persons who cannot help themselves, and to uncover long buried truth.

As in the previous entries in this series, Connolly creates passages which are remarkably free of a "ghost story" feeling, and in which Parker gains understanding from the deceased to help him in serving the living.

Parker, along with his friends and sidekicks Angel and Louis, work to enact a type of justice of their own making. This justice, or perhaps retribution, borders on vigilantism, and at times their drive to succeed made me a little uncomfortable.

Nevetheless, with the Charlie "Bird" Parker series, Connolly has been firmly established as one of the best authors of suspense fiction working today.
