Summarily dismissed from his latest radio gig, Rock Jock Rick Shannon hops into his truck to spin the late shift for WAOR-FM in McCrae Mississippi.

And we’re off. Nobody does the modern parody better than Bill Fitzhugh. The fact that he always neatly delivers it in the form of a mystery is merely a bonus.

For such a little town McCrae has an awful lot going on and it’s up to us and the outsider Rick to figure out how a missing D.J., a local fire, a beauty contest and a couple of outstanding loans tie in with the slippery station manager of WAOR.

We’re introduced to a wide cast of characters and a wealth of musical history as we wind our way through the book. “Words and Music”. If you enjoy both and lament as I do that the only song by Nazareth anyone under thirty seems to know is “Love Hurts” this is a must read. If you’re up for a humorous and fast paced book with well done plotting and fantastic characters don’t let it out of your hands until the last page. If you’re a Fitzhugh fan don’t worry baby, it’s all here in his distinct and invaluable style. Grab a Red Stripe and dust off the turntable, your treat awaits.
