"Sons of the City" is the debut novel by Philadelphia Daily News reporter Scott Flander. It introduces Sergeant Eddie North, who is back on the streets after being demoted from the Organized Crime department.

When one of his police officers is killed at a crack house, everyone believes that it is drug related. The City of Brotherly Love is soon overtaken by racial tensions. Not believing this is a drug deal gone bad, Sgt. North initiates his own investigation. Soon he is joined by the victim's sister, Michelle Ryder, risking her life going undercover into the Mob. Together they pursue justice, but find it might be too costly.

Mr. Flander writes with power and excitement, drawing you into his story. He comprehends and describes the 'family' of police life meaningfully, while creating realistic scenarios. It was exciting to read, fast-paced and thrilling. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to his next book, "Four to Midnight".
