Surgeon Michelle Renard feels self conscious at an uptown gala honoring the work accomplished by Theo Buchanan, a justice department lawyer. He was instrumental in sending an organized crime syndicate to jail for a very long time. It is lucky for him that Michelle is at that event because he is suddenly taken ill. Michelle immediately diagnoses his condition and rushes him to the hospital where she operates on a nearly ruptured appendix.

The moment he wakes up from surgery and talks to Michelle, she enchants Theo. He follows her home to Bowen, Louisiana where she intends to set up a practice in her own clinic. Before she begins, Theo barges into her life and refuses to leave it and Michelle really doesn't want him to go. While the couple is exploring their feelings for each other, thugs target Michelle for murder because she contains information that she is unaware of, but could put them behind bars for a very long time.

Julie Garwood has written a romantic thriller that will definitely please her fans, as well as readers who like mysteries and thrillers. Theo, the brother of the hero of HEARTBREAKER, is an honorable and kind person who comfortably accepts the role of a knight in shining armor for the woman he loves. The heroine is an independent person who captures the hearts of Theo and the audience, placing MERCY on the path to all the bestseller lists.
