I Have Sinned. This message greeted Detective Jane Rizzoli and Boston medical examiner Maura Isles when they arrived on the scene of a vicious murder. The condition of the murdered girl and various signs left at the scene would indicate that the murder had satanic origins. Then they discover that either the victim or the murder placed a call to psychologist Joyce O’Donnell. O’Donnell is a member of a secret society called The Mephisto Club. O’Donnell is far from a favorite of either Jane or Maura.

As they delve deeper into the reason they begin to wonder if The Mephisto Club is an organization that delves into satanic rituals or if it is an organization that fights evil as the members claim.

Detective Rizzoli is determined to find the killer but as a sidebar has to deal with the problems in her parents’ marriage. Maura is dealing with her love for a man she cannot have – a man who is a priest.

Anthony Sansome is very wealthy and a leader in The Mephisto Club. Jane seems to run into him everywhere she turns for clues. Anthony tries to get Maura to join the group.

The book is very exciting and the characters are wonderful. If you want a book that you don’t want to lay down until the end then this book is for you. I found myself looking over my shoulder as I read but I am ready for the next Gerritsen book. Hopefully we will be reading more about The Mephisto Club.
