It’s 1959 and the town of Black River Falls is split into two camps due to the visit of the Russian Premier, Nikita Krushchev. Feelings are running high and when local mystery writer Richard Conners (who also just happens to have communist sympathies) becomes the target of hate mail, a fire in his office, and threats to his life, he hires local PI and sometime lawyer, Sam McCain, to investigate, but before he can give Sam all the details Connors turns up dead, in Sam's office. This is a light and humourous series, but which shows a dark side of an idyllic small town life. The ‘50s are really brought to life for me, and the little details are wonderful.
