Sookie Stackhouse is a small town cocktail waitress in Louisiana. She has just broken up with her vampire boyfriend, Bill, who has taken off out of the county on an assignment from his superiors. Sookie is also a psychic.

The book begins with Sookie driving home from work and seeing another Vampire friend, Eric running down the road naked and with amnesia. She picks Eric up and takes him home. When she contacts Eric’s employees she finds out that a nasty group of witches have come to take over the Shreveport area and have cast a spell over Eric creating the amnesia. It turns out the witches are not only causing trouble for the vampire community in Shreveport but also for the Werewolves.

Sookie is given the responsibility of keeping Eric safe until the bad witches can be tracked down and the spell can be removed and he can return to his normal state as the head of the Shreveport Vampires. Soon Sookie’s brother disappears and people in Shreveport start to die. It is quite the adventure for Sookie complete with vampires, werewolves and shifters. She is also a very likeable character.

This was my first Sookie Stackhouse book and I totally enjoyed it. I found it compared favorably with Laurell Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. This book is only for those who enjoy mysteries with a supernatural flair to them. I intend to look for the previous books in the series and look forward to more adventures with Sookie.
