Good stuff. A police procedural set in an Iowa Sheriff's Department investigating a nasty, gruesome multiple murder, with apparently Satanic/ritual overtones.

I particularly liked the characterization in this novel. There are a number of characters in whom I can totally believe. I know people just like them in local law enforcement. And the final villain was a truly nasty piece of work, which I enjoy...I loves me a good villain.

The book falls squarely within the police procedural sub-genre, and there are points where the "procedural" aspect almost bogs down the story, but those are quite brief. On the whole, it kept me going right through.
