A wealthy middle aged real estate developer; a beautiful, rather passive 20 year old young woman; an unscrupulous young man working as the developer's chaffeur; a young man recently released from prison, looking for the girl he left behind; a lovely country house in a rather secluded location.

James weaves all these elements together in a short, dark, but highly readable novella. Events unfold as each of the three men seeks to claim the woman for himself. But she surprises them all in her responses to their possessiveness.

Who survives the inevitable showdown?
