Damn!! I love this series. Quintilian Dalrymple is a great character. The series is set in a future version of Edinburgh, and things are a bit different in the future! The city has closed itself off from the rest of the world ( this happened right after the famous drug wars), and a new government was formed based on the teachings of a ancient philosopher. The only people allowed in are tourists, who come for the year round festival. The people who actually live there, well lets just say that they could be happier.

And Quint could be happier as well, because as a free lance investigator he is brought in to solve a strange case. A body is found with a arm missing. On top of this, the governing body, The Guardians, have brought in academics from New Oxford to help with a rising crime problem. Needless to say the status quo is F.U.B.A.R.

Quint eventually follows the leads to New Oxford. It’s his first time outside the city wall in quite a long time. And he soon discovers that Edinburgh is not the only place with it’s share of problems.

This is another in a series of great books from a great writer.
