...

Laura Fleming has escaped the clutches of her huge southern family, to make a life for herself in Boston. An accident to her beloved grandfather sends her rushing back to the not entirely comfortable bosom of her family. The disappearance of a young local girl seems to have something to do with her grandfather’s accident, and Laura is worried that the answer lies closer to home than her relatives want to admit.

I really liked the character of Laura (apart from her utterance of those immortal words "It never occurred to me that the murderer would come after me.") and the book is witty and bright. I also liked the various characters in Laura’s family, although I found it difficult to keep some of them straight - particularly the men. The women were well drawn, but the men less so I found.
