Josie, Perri and Kat have been inseparable best friends since high school. All are talented and have a wonderful future before them. So what is the secret that eventually leads to tragedy in all three lives?

The three are students at Glendale High School and live in an affluent suburb of Baltimore. Certainly there are a few students who do not have the privileges that these friends do but they run in a different crowd.

When the normal school routine is shattered by a call that there has been a shooting in the girl’s restroom teachers, students, parents are all thrown into a turmoil from which none will ever really recover.

Kat Harrigan one of the most beautiful, kind and popular students is found dead in the restroom. Perri is injured and in a coma. Josie is also wounded but able to tell some sort of a story which is really not too convincing.

Laura Lippman tells a story of love, closeness, betrayal that will keep you reading until she finally reveals the terrible truth behind the shooting.
