Most everyone has been to a mall. They are all over the world. It’s the way we shop now in this “need it now” world. And I think it’s a wonderful place to put a mystery. And that’s just what Barry Maitland does in Silver Meadow. Silver Meadow being the name of the mall.

This is my first book by Maitland, and there is a bit of back story from a previous encounter between the two main characters. But it doesn’t take away from the book at all. The reader is given enough to enjoy the book, and not enough to bunk reading the earlier. The main detective is named Brock, and that’s what people call him, just Brock. He is brought to this town outside London because of a sighting of a criminal named North. Upper North to be precise. North is a maniac who robs, kills and steals. And he also manages to stay out of jail, even escaping when needed.

But rather than look out of place at the mall where North was spotted, Brock uses a case of a missing girl, who was most likely murdered, as cover. He brings in help in the person of Kathy Kolla. Kathy takes more and more interest in the missing girl, who as it turns out, may not be the only one...

This book moves along nicely and really never has a dull moment. Reading it was like riding a bike downhill, jump on and enjoy the ride, as it gets faster and faster, and you hope you can hold on till the end. I will be buying his next book, and looking for the earlier ones.
