Series: Elmo Finn # 2
St. Martin’s, Nov 2000` $23.95, 288 pp.

In Nashville, a woman and two men, code name Red, White, and Blue respectively, kidnap Nikki Gannon, First Lady of Tennessee. Realizing immediately the danger to Nikki, Governor Luke Gannon rejects using the various law enforcement officials to safely rescue his wife. Instead, he turns to retired spook and old Nam buddy Elmo Finn to lead their old military unit in a covert operation to rescue Nikki.

In the nearby mountains, a Neo-Nazi encampment is swarming with followers shouting “88” in deference to Hitler. The group demands the release one of their members, a convicted killer. Elmo wonders if these fanatics could be behind the abduction? As he and his commandos search for the kidnappers, they prepare for war knowing that people have already died and more will follow as they confront this Aryan group.

DOUBLE DEAL, the second Finn mystery, is an exciting tale that fans of non-stop action will enjoy. The plot succeeds because the action never slows, nor loses focus even with numerous twists, and never reveals the identities of Red, White and Blue until the end. Michael McClister has written a one sitting winner that leaves the audience needing to have Finn’s first novel, VICTIM’S CHOICE, to be read immediately afterward.
