Series: Sam Turner # 1
This first novel by British writer John Baker is a winner. Baker
writes with humor and originality.

Sam Turner seems to be coming out of a long losing streak. His first wife died, he is recently divorced from a second. At an evening men's group he introduces himself as a private investigator even though hešs not.

Then someone calls offering him what seems like a simple job, and he agrees. Things quickly turn complicated. A TV interview brings him more business and he is off and running.

Along the way he picks up help in a variety of places. Baker does characterization uncommonly well. Turneršs employees make you laugh and tug at the heartstrings. You will want to get to know them better. If the good guys can bring a smile, the crimes tend to be dark.

The book moves along smoothly and leaves you wanting more.
