Sweet Vengeance     Amazon UK HC
Una-Mary Parker
Class/Genre:   Mystery
Headline; 2000; £17.99; pp. 217
Classification: Adult fiction (thriller)

Designer Arabella Webster vanishes just before her first showing in the London Fashion Week, making Joanna, her daughter, fear the worst. As she attempts to find out what has happened to her mother, she discovers that she may well have been hiding a dark secret. Will Arabella ever return?

With only 217 pages, 'Sweet Vengeance' is a quick read that is not overly taxing to the brain. In fact, it is an adequate thriller, but not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination.

I found it very hard to sympathise with any of the characters. Joanna, particularly, struck me as a spoilt brat and the novel did not provide that many surprises. It was clear from the start what had happened to Arabella, although Parker did manage to provide some confusion. Overall, there is nothing in this novel that will make it stand out from the crowd. It is a thriller that you could read in one day, laying on the beach under a hot sun. It is a lot more that a starter than a main course and is not as good as some of her other works. Disappointing.
