Godiva is young village girl who is a bit of a tomboy. She is brave and smart. She is devastated when Canute, a Viking King, makes a bloody path through her town, Coventry, as he conquers the young country of England. She survives the attack and grows into a strong, caring woman. Leofric is a nobleman who must choose between two paths, neither with a clear destination. This is a story about right versus wrong. It is ripe with religious conflict.

It is a little idealist for my tastes, but the story line could have been really good. There are three major problems. The first is that the characters fell flat. They just didn’t seem real. The second problem is that the story was rushed. He could have used some better descriptions and gone deeper into the situations. The third problem is that there were parts of the timeline that just didn’t add up. This story is set in the 1100s, yet towns knew about things that had happened in a town on the other side of the country the day before. Some of the things just don’t make sense.

The only saving grace was the ending. For a page or two he actually had me unsure about what was going to happen.
