Series: Lucas Davenport # 15

Sandford continues his popular series featuring Minnesota state investigator Lucas Davenport. In this entry, an old fashioned "gripping read," we follow him to the far Northern reaches of the state where a Russian citizen has been found murdered near a Russian ship taking on grain for sale overseas. Officials in the US State Department discover that the dead man has family connections high in the Russian government, and a Russian investigator arrives to find out what happened. Davenport is assigned to accompany her to the scene of the crime. As we can expect from Sandford, there is quite a bit more going on here than just one dead body found on a dock.

A long established underground Communist cell, a street person startled into a new way of life, a bewildered mother of a teenaged boy, and her son - a victim of an extremely subtle form of long term abuse are all part of the mix.

For my taste, Sandford is one author of a continuing series who continues to maintain the quality of each entry. I look forward to the next adventure for Lucas Davenport. I'm also hoping that a pro bono attorney whom we meet late in the book becomes a continuing character.
