Kit Carson & His Three Wives     Amazon US HC Amazon Canada HC
Marc Simmons
Class/Genre:   Non-Fiction   Western   Biography

Simmons has obviously spent a lot of time tracking down facts about Kit Carson, one of the famous men of the American frontier. He presents the results of his impressive research, cross referencing important dates in Carson's life - references to his exploits in the accounts of other frontiersmen as well as in reliable histories and fanciful make believe stories. At least one well known "historian" specializing in Carson's life is unmasked as completely unreliable.

Simmons does a good job of presenting the background in which Carson lived and worked - the customs of the residents of the areas where he spent time, relationships between Indian nations, Spanish, and anglo alike.

Readers who enjoy an enjoyable presentation of sound historical research will enjoy this!
