This was my first read of a Nero Wolf mystery. I had seen one on TV and enjoyed it. I must say I enjoy the TV version better and don't plan to read any more.

Nero Wolf is egotistical and lazy. His sidekick Archie does all the work. This is consistent with the TV version. The part that I found difficult was HOW lazy and HOW egotistical the book made Nero Wolf out to be. MUCH worse than the TV version.

Also, I knew there was a snake Fer-de-Lance and kept wondering where the snake was in the book. I expected it to play a bigger role. I also find it difficult to read books set back in time. This is set in the 20s I believe and I found myself wondering why they didn't call them on their cell-phone -- WRONG!
