On Halloween night in 1973, Rachel Wright vanished while trick or treating with friends and her brothers, and accompanied by her mother. The police conducted an intensive search that ended three days later when the little girl's corpse was found. The autopsy revealed she died almost as soon as she disappeared. The family all has alibis.
Two decades later, the new police chief reopens the case by putting up billboards featuring Rachel's face and asking for information about the disappearance. Wealthy Lizbet Lange suffers from an overactive conscience. While Lizbet is in bed with her boyfriend Jonathan, his father Charlie, a ghost, arrives. Jonathan leaves and Charlie informs her it is their duty to find Rachel's killer so the little girl's killer is brought o justice. Lizbet wants no part of tracking down a killer since her memory has not forgotten the perils of the last case she and Charlie worked (see CHARLIE'S BONES). However, Charlie's lure is too great and Lizbet joins him once again searching for a killer.
It is extremely rare to find a well-written supernatural romantic mystery, but L.L. Thrasher has the ability to accomplish that feat. CHARLIE'S WEB contains a believable and wonderful romance between two superb characters Lizbet and Charlie's son Jonathan. The mystery is exciting and filled with rising tension. However, it is the supernatural element in Charlie that owns this novel. He is charming, witty, and oozing with sexual appeal. With this series and her Zacariah Smith tales, Ms. Thrasher has demonstrated she is one of the better writers on the scene today.
