This is a collection of short stories of the vampire, Saint-Germain, over a large span of time. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering reading any of the Saint-Germain novels or who has only read a few. This book also demonstrates Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s talents at writing in a wide variety of styles.

It gives one a better understanding of Saint-Germain’s character since the stories jump from one time span to another. Whereas, the actual novels in the series generally center around a much shorter time period with much more detail about the history and customs of the time period it is set in and give more depth to other characters in the novel. The novels in this series are ones that could be compared with the original Dracula and are of a more serious nature than many of the romanticized vampire novels that are now on the market.

I have only had the pleasure of reading one of the novels in the Saint-Germain series. However, after reading this book, I am more intrigued than I previously was and intend to start at the first of the series and try to catch up. Luckily, there are over twenty books in the series now so I will have plenty to read as Chelsea Quinn Yarbro continues to write.
