Abraham Verghese is the Ethiopian-American novelist and Stanford internal-medicine professor behind The Covenant of Water (2023), Cutting for Stone (2009), The Tennis Partner (1998), and My Own Country (1994). Verghese is the canonical contemporary American novelist of medicine and the Indian diaspora.
