James R. Hansen is the American historian of technology at Auburn University whose authorized biography First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong (2005) is the standard reference on Armstrong and the source text for the 2018 Damien Chazelle film. He has written more than ten books on the history of aerospace engineering.
