Philip R. Craig (1933-2007) wrote the long-running Martha's Vineyard Mystery series (more than twenty entries) featuring J. W. Jackson, a retired Boston cop turned Vineyard fisherman. The series is the closest American cozy equivalent to Donna Leon's Venice books.
