Ray Nayler is the American science fiction novelist behind The Mountain in the Sea (2022) and Where the Axe Is Buried (2025). The Mountain in the Sea was a Nebula Award finalist and won the Locus Award for Best First Novel. Nayler is a former U.S. Foreign Service officer who served in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, and Afghanistan.
