Atlantis is the first novel in the long Greg Donegan series (Bob Mayer's pseudonym for this particular military-action-meets-paranormal mode) that takes the lost-continent mythology and runs it through contemporary special-forces thriller machinery. A Bermuda Triangle disappearance, a Navy SEAL team, a series of underwater anomalies that turn out to be more than geological, and a long-buried mystery that has implications for human history.

Donegan's strengths are the special-operations tactical detail (Mayer is a former Special Forces officer) and the propulsion of the chapters. The paranormal-mythology material is competent rather than original. The series develops the mythology across multiple sequels.

Three stars. Recommended to readers who like their military thrillers with paranormal-ancient-mystery elements. The series is reliable for what it is.
