Touch of Madness is the direct sequel to Touch of Evil and the book where C. T. Adams locks the Kate Reilly Thrall world into focus. Kate, the Denver courier with one good day a week of vampire-grade strength, gets pulled into an investigation involving a particularly nasty serial killer with possible connections to the vampire prince she would prefer never to think about again.
Adams has more confidence in the second book. The Denver geography is richer. The Thrall mechanic continues to do interesting work, both as a plot device and as a metaphor for what happens after trauma you cannot quite metabolize. The romance with Tom, the human cop, gets the screen time it deserves.
Four stars. The series gets stronger from here. Read after Touch of Evil.
