Haruki Murakami is the Japanese novelist behind Norwegian Wood (1987), The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (1994-1995), Kafka on the Shore (2002), 1Q84 (2009-2010), Killing Commendatore (2017), and The City and Its Uncertain Walls (2024). Murakami is one of the most-translated contemporary novelists writing in any language and the canonical contemporary Japanese literary novelist for the broader English-language audience.
