Edge of Fear is one of Cherry Adair's Black Rose Chronicles novels, where she added a paranormal-talents layer to her established T-FLAC romantic suspense formula. The result is a kind of X-Men-meets-Romantic-Suspense, with operatives who can do specific psychic things deployed against globe-spanning villains who can do specific psychic worse things.
Adair's great gift is the comic register. The books take their relationships seriously and their world-domination plots not seriously at all, and the combination is genuinely fun. The romance in this one between Lark and Simon (both psychic operatives, both with reasons not to trust each other) is handled with the pace and heat Adair fans expect.
Four stars. A solidly enjoyable entry in a series that knows what it is for. Read after the first few T-FLAC novels for context.
