Rescue Me is a Black Rose Chronicles entry, Cherry Adair's paranormal-T-FLAC subseries, and it is one of the books in which the paranormal mechanics work the most cleanly. The hero has the ability to slow time briefly. The heroine has been training her own particular gift in private and has been deeply ambivalent about being recruited.
Adair handles the paranormal setup with the lightness the form rewards. The romance is the engine. The action is the chassis. The villains have the appropriate level of competent menace. The closing chapters land where you expect.
Four stars. Reliable Adair. Best for fans of the series rather than newcomers.
